The club was founded in 1979 when Abbotswood Youth Club and Heron Boys merged to form one Club. The coming together meant the expansion of the footballing side of Abbotswood Youth Club which at this time changed its name to St Nicholas Youth Club in the 1979/80 season. The club originally had links to St Nicholas Church in Yate. St Nicholas moved to the home of the Ridings in 1995 which is managed by the Chipping Sodbury Towns Trust.

For the past forty years, St Nicholas FC has been recognised predominantly as a club for young people, and for running one of the largest and most successful summer tournaments, attracting over 3000 people and teams from Europe, Wales and the South West every year.

The club continues to grow year on year and is now home to +420 members, +100 volunteers who together enable 16 boy’s teams, 9 girl’s teams and 2 men’s teams to compete in six different leagues on a weekly basis.
